Signs Of Abuse

Do You Know The Signs Of Nursing Home Abuse?

Elderly abuse in nursing homes is horrifying – yet it happens to so many of our elder friends and loved ones on a daily basis.

Would you know the signs of nursing home abuse or if your care-taker was abusing an elderly family member or friend?

Abuse and Neglect in Nursing Homes has these signs (note: these signs are not a DEFINITE sign of elderly abuse, but they should be indicators that cause you to sit up and take notice):

Odd and unexplained bruises is a very common sign as are broken bones, burns, and abrasions.  Any injury in a nursing home should be explained and understood.

Poor hygiene, bed sores, sudden loss of weight are all signs of nursing home neglect – please do not ignore them or let anyone tell you they are “normal”.

A change in behavior or personality – especially when the care giver is around – could be a sign… Pay attention and ask questions.

Abuse In Nursing Homes – A Silent Killer

Sadly, the pain and suffering caused by abuse in nursing homes is done in silence.   You’re not there – no one is watching – so no one knows that something needs to be done.

There are ways you can “be there” – even when you’re not.  Consider some sort of “nanny cam” or hidden camera (one with a built-in dvr) so you can SEE what is happening to your elderly loved one when you are not around.
